When referring to the games, AFC/NFC Wild Card round, AFC/NFC Wild Card playoffs, or an AFC/NFC Wild Card game are acceptable in all headlines, social media, and on first reference in copy. Similarly, AFC/NFC Wild Card berth, AFC/NFC Wild Card team or AFC/NFC Wild Card winner should be used on first reference. In all forms, the fourth word is never capitalized.
On subsequent references in copy, the wild card round, a wild card game, wild card berth, etc. are all acceptable.
There is no such thing as an “NFL Wild Card”; only conference wild cards exist.
